Quitting to Prepare for Surgery
“I had smoked for 53 years and had tried to quit a dozen times. So I called the quitline and hoped for success. I realized my smoking triggers included stress, drinking coffee and hanging out with smokers. With my coaches’ encouragement, I decided to eat cinnamon candy, read my bible, and play games on my computer to distract myself from smoking. I also decided to order nicotine patches from the quitline. Within just two weeks of starting, I started using the patches and put my cigarettes down for good. I have never looked back. It has now been one year, two months, and four days since I set the cigarettes down. I feel better and I’ve lost weight. Now I hate the smell of cigarette smoke and feel really committed to my new, healthier lifestyle.”
